"As God is exalted to the right place in our lives, a thousand problems are solved all at once.”

Refocus Our Perspective, Invest In Treasure that Lasts vs. 19-21

Matthew 6:19-21
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

The words lay up could be translated as HOARD.

Jesus says there are two types of treasure we can invest in, earthly treasures and heavenly treasures.

Luke 12:19-21
“And I will say to my soul, ‘Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”

We need to refocus our perspective and see what is really valuable—treasures in heaven last forever.

How Do We Refocus Our Perspective And Invest In Things That Last?

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Refocus Our Priority—Serve Christ Only vs. 22-24

Matthew 6:22-24
“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”

Genesis 3:6
“So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate.”

Jesus tells us that we cannot have two top priorities in life—the top can only be crown with one.

The question we must ask ourselves is
What is my top priority? What priority has my heart?

With proper Perspective and Priority — Worry Won’t Be A Worry

Matthew 6:25-34
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

"As God is exalted to the right place in our lives, a thousand problems are solved all at once.”

Jesus says there are two categories of things we tend to worry about—the important and unimportant, things at hand and things on the way.

Jesus tells us not to worry for several reasons.

Worry undermines faith

Arthur W. Pink — How shall we rely upon the mercy of God in the hour of death, if we are afraid to trust His providence for the things of this life”

Worry Will Wear You Out

Matthew 6:34
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Worry adds nothing

“And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?”

Jesus’ Solution On Worry
Matthew 6:33
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
