Matthew 7:24-27

The Bible says, 'Don’t count on tomorrow' (James 4:13-15). Here’s the question: is your faith doable? Here's an even more precise question: are you doing your faith? Are you acting out what you believe? In today's scripture, the two men shared the same vision.
I. Characteristics of the Foolish Man
1. The speed at which he builds
The first characteristic of a foolish builder is the speed at which he builds.
- “Speed is not always synonymous with success.”
- The construction speed of the foolish man in our parable represents at least two significant habits of sin.
- First, we see he was willing to take shortcuts. He took a shortcut by not digging down to the rock. Sin has many shortcuts!
- “Sin is always promising things now that God’s Word says later.”
2. The show with which he builds
Second, we see that the fool's building was for show.
- All the constructing that the foolish builder did was construction that would show outwardly.
- Foolish builders have no depth to their spirituality. They are just the cosmetic finish to a shallow heart.
3. The stupidity with which he builds

Matthew 23:17, Matthew 23:19

The third characteristic of a foolish builder is the stupidity with which he builds.
- The Lord calls this man a fool.
- Christ uses this word in our text as He did to describe those who rejected Christ in Matthew 23:17 and 19.
- The stupidity of the foolish builder is not just seen in his name but also in his neglect.
II. Characteristics of the Wise Man
1. He follows directions

Matthew 7:24

Matthew 11:28

The first characteristic of a Wise builder is that he follows directions.
- The man who builds his house upon the rock does not rush into a high profile kind of Christian service. He will take time to read, digest, and follow the instructions laid down for converts in God's word.
- We can usually save ourselves a lot of trouble when taking possession of new equipment by reading the maker's manual.
2. He builds on the right foundation

Matthew 7:24

The second characteristic of a wise builder is that he builds on the right foundation.
- In Acts 4:11, Christ is referred to as the stone, the corner-stone.
- You and I know that this Rock is Jesus (1 Corinthians 10:4).
- Luke’s version says he dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock.
- In 1 Corinthians 3:11, Paul says, "For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ."
3. He builds to withstand a storm

Matthew 7:25

The third characteristic is that his house is built to withstand the storm.
- We are all confronted with the storms of life.
· The storms will come our way, but we can be certain of one thing; if your house is built upon the Rock, when the storms do come, your house will stand.
