Audience of One - Pt 9: Firm Foundation

Audience of One - Pt 9: Firm Foundation

In a world obsessed with being seen, liked, and approved, Jesus calls us to live for an audience of One. In Matthew 6, He teaches us to give, pray, and fast — not for recognition, but for a deeper relationship with the Father who sees in secret. This series will challenge us to shift our focus from the applause of people to the approval of God, finding freedom, authenticity, and purpose in living fully for Him.

We’re experts at appearances, but amateurs at foundations.
Both of them want to build a house.
They both heard the same words.
Information alone does not lead to transformation.
Both of them completed a home.
Outward success isn’t proof of inward stability.
It’s better to be under construction and built on the Rock than fully decorated and sinking into the sand.
The storm hit both homes.
Storms don’t discriminate, but they do reveal if you're built different.
If you want to be built different, you’ve got to decide what you’re building on.
Stability is not proven in sunshine. It is proven in storms.
1. Family – “If my people are good, I’m good.”
Family can be the framework of your house, but it cannot be the foundation.
2. Feelings – “If it feels right, it must be right.”
• Sometimes you feel anxious, and the noise says, “Shut down.”
• Sometimes you feel angry, and the noise says, “React now.”
• Sometimes you feel tired, and the noise says, “Give up.”
• Sometimes you feel lonely, and the noise says, “You deserve it.”
3. Followers – “If I have influence, I matter.”
God’s not against you having influence, He’s against influence having you.
4. Fortune – “If it pays, it must be right.”
• If the only reason you take the job is the salary
• If the only reason you move is the mortgage rate
• If the only reason you choose your schedule is the overtime
• If God was never invited into the decision, you’re building on sand
Jesus wasn’t after amazement, He was after alignment.
The rock doesn’t move for you, you have to move to it.
1. You build on the Rock when you make time with God a non negotiable.
- Only 22 percent of Christians read Scripture once a week or more.
- Only 44 percent of christians pray daily.
- Among young adults, it is closer to 10 percent who pray daily.
Engagement with scripture at least four times a week are:
- 61% less likely to view pornography
- 51% less likely to abuse alcohol
- The divorce rate for couples that prayed together daily is less than 5%.
Foundation is created by consistency, not intensity. And whatever fills your mind first will guide your heart next.
2. You build on the Rock when you obey what God says even when it is not convenient.
• Forgive the person.
• Start the conversation.
• Serve in the ministry.
• Set the boundary.
• Confess the sin.
• Take the step.
• Stop asking, “Is this easy” Start asking, “Is this obedient”
3. You build on the Rock when you apply what you learn.
“What will I do with this today”
When everything else is falling apart, Jesus is still the Solid Rock.
