Jesus asked the disciples - as opposed to
just telling them
“Who do you say I am?” — Matthew 16:15

Jesus asked what Bartimaeus (who was blind) wanted even though it could have been presumed or inferred
“What do you want me to do for you?” — Mark 10:51 (to Bartimaeus)

Jesus shares the parable of the Good Samaritan, breaking the paradigms of implicit bias, prejudice and superiority complex, and calls the people to come up with the answer.
“Which of these three do you think was a neighbor?” — Luke 10:36 (after the Good Samaritan story)

Jesus at the end of the Sermon on the Mount in Luke brings understanding and practice to the plate and calls for reasoning
Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” — Luke 6:46

Jesus perceived the judgement being directed towards Him for telling the paralyzed man in front of Him that his sins were forgiven, so He asks for their reasoning
“Why are you thinking these things in your hearts?” — Luke 5:22
Writing Moment:

You have some level of each of these 38 traits.
Place each number in the chart.

If your levels are similar to those of your family and/or friends, they should overlap on the chart. If they differ significantly, they should appear only within your own oval.

Dialogue Question:

What stands out as you see where your traits are plotted?
Dialogue Questions:

The foundation to our next dialogue question:
How can we say OUR when we are all so different?

What makes WE/US a beautiful and a complex reality?
What are some of the complexities of stating who WE are? (Ethos)
Dialogue Questions:

What is the cost of living in a world where WE only happens in being identical?
What is the value/benefit of living in a world where being different is seen as a strength?
Dialogue Question:

What opens the door for a diverse group of people to walk towards Jesus together?
Value: We believe transformation begins with shared story.

Culture: We show up as real people. We ask questions. We listen to each other.

Success: People feel known. People feel safe. People belong.
Dialogue Question:

If transformation begins with shared story, how could that be lived out in how you show up this week? At church, in homes, at work, with neighbors?
Write a prayer:
Short, simple, and focused on being a body that values each other’s story

Dialogue Question:

Who are we?
Take it Deeper Questions:
Ethos • inner character that defines who you are - what our habits, tone, and choice say about who you really are. It’s the values that shape what we do.
Where have you seen a belief turn into a habit? What were some of the difficult points you felt along the way?
Think of a moment that shaped you. If you look back, what needs (safety, belonging, esteem, etc.) show up? Where did you notice God?
In a group where stories differ (think David, Rahab, Peter - even your family & friends), how can you build a bridge between people or characters? What filters can you use—humility, honesty, confidentiality, honoring others, noticing God-at-work?
When did you feel truly heard? What made that space feel safe—and how is God inviting you to offer that to someone else?
