"The Bible only describes one famine in the Levant between the time of the patriarch Jacob (circa 1700 b.c.e.) and King David (circa 1000 b.c.e.)—and that is the famine mentioned in the book of Ruth."

We have good reason to trust in the Word of God.
Again, some would read that and think, what’s the Big Deal? The Big deal is when hearts aren’t aligned, they should never be joined.
The story of Elimelech leading his family out of the land of God’s promise and into the land of the enemies of the Lord is a story of disloyalty.
Your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods
Ruth said: Your people shall be my people, and your God my God.
1. The faithful love of God doesn’t stop even when our actions might merit it.
The guy who wrote this, Paul, had a past. He said I an the Chief of sinners… and God took that broken, hate filled, messed up life and turned him into one of the most influential voices in history.
He is a God of FAITHFUL love, He is a REDEEMER, He doesn’t just give up because we mess up.
"God’s anger and frustration doesn’t burn hotter than God’s compassion, but both do burn together. God is both just – setting the path for what is right and good; and merciful – willing to give us another chance when things go off the rails. That’s the gospel. It’s God’s persistent, unmerited, surprising grace when we least deserve it. It washes over you and tells you that you are more than the sum of your mistakes; that despite your failures and shortcomings, you are loved beyond measure."

"God never shuts the door on anyone who truly wants to come to Him in repentance and faith. Jesus’ promise is for you: 'Whoever comes to me I will never drive away' (John 6:37)."

2. Naomi didn’t let a series of bad decisions become her identity.
The grace of God is evident in our lives when we embrace the grace of God and refuse to believe the lies about who we are.
Ruth did not let the facts of her history to determine her destiny.
My history is not my destiny. My direction is determined by Christ, not my past.
We are changed to bring change, saved to bring salvation. We are called to be the hands and feet of Jesus, His voice calling out to a lost and dying generation.
3. Naomi loved her daughter-in-laws with a pure and deep love regardless of how their opinions might have differed.
"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you... By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."
