HOW DO WE HEAR THE VOICE OF GOD?
THE ANSWER IS SIMPLE: LISTEN
THE ANSWER IS SIMPLE: LISTEN
Samuel was just a young boy when his mother Hannah left him with the high priest, Eli, at the tabernacle in Shiloh in fulfillment of her vow to God.
God gave Hannah a son
Hannah named her son, Samuel: Which means “heard of God”
God heard and answered her prayer
God heard and answered her prayer
Samuel slept in the tabernacle precincts, very close proximity to the Holy of Holies where the Ark of the Covenant rested.
Samuel was nurtured by God’s own spirit
According to Amos 8:11-12 the absence of a prophetic word was a result of a curse on Israel due to their sin and apostasy

ALL OF THAT WAS ABOUT TO CHANGE
Eli’s sons, Hophni and Phinehas were wicked men who profaned the house of the Lord by their perverse behavior, and they corrupted the sacrifices the people offered to God.
Eli did not correct his sons.
Eli did not seek God’s presence, thus he did not recognize that it was the voice of the Lord calling to Samuel.
At the third occurrence, Eli suddenly perceived what was happening and gave Samuel the proper response to the voice of God.
He told Samuel to reply: 'Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.'

THE LORD WILL SPEAK TO HIS PEOPLE IN MANY DIFFERENT WAYS:
1. THE BIBLE – God’s inspired revealed Word:
2 Timothy 3:16-17 - All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (NIV)
2. Through the NATURAL REALM:
Psalm 19:1The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies (NIV)
3. Through the SUPERNATURAL REALM OF THE SPIRIT: Dreams, visions, prophecies, etc.
Numbers 12:6He said, "Listen to my words: "When a prophet of the LORD is among you, I reveal myself to him in visions, I speak to him in dreams. (NIV)
Acts 2:17-18 17" 'In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. 18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. (NIV)
4. Through EXPERIENCES: Such as Saul on the road to Damascus in Acts 9 and Peter at the home of the Roman Centurion Cornelus in Acts 10.
Regardless of the way God chooses to speak to us, the prerequisite to hearing God’s voice is the same: WE MUST LISTEN
In his classic work The Practice of the Presence of God, Brother Lawrence, a 17th century French monk, describes "being attentive to the presence of God" as a simple, continuous, and loving awareness of God in every moment of daily life, transforming all activities into acts of worship.
IF WE WANT TO HEAR THE VOICE OF GOD: We must be attentive to the presence of God – practice a simple, continuous, and loving awareness of God in every moment of daily life.
· Matthew 13:9“Whoever has ears, let them hear.” (NIV)
· Matthew 13:9 “Are you listening to this? Really listening?” (The Message)
