False teachers and failed leaders in the Church do more harm than enemies outside the Church.
We will mark and avoid hypocrisy by becoming humble servants like Jesus.
What area of your life do you need to fight hypocrisy with humble service?
1. They preach but do not practice.
2. They cast heavy burdens on others.
Beware of leaders and Christians who emphasize their traditions over and above Scripture.
Pastors must preach sermons in which the burden of the Law is lifted by the Gospel of Grace.
The Pharisees would not lift a finger to help; Jesus was willingly lifted up on a cross to die to save.
3. They seek status over servanthood.
Matthew Henry - “For him that is taught in the word to give respect to him that teaches, is commendable; but for him that teaches, to demand it, to be puffed up with it, is sinful.”
I am convinced that Heaven’s greatest rewards are reserved for the Christians whose name nobody knows.
Those who seek status over servanthood will find that while many here on earth might know their name, Jesus will declare to them, “I never knew you.”
