This year, we are taking a journey through the New Testament. We are currently in the book of Acts. This covers the beginning of the church and we are looking at a fresh start for a few of the apostles.

This week we looked at the beginning of the book of Acts. We share how the Holy Spirit changed everything for the apostles. If we want a fresh start, it will begin with God’s Spirit too.
You might have had a bad experience with someone in church before, but that wasn’t God. We see that it’s His desire for everyone to experience the hope and life that He offers so freely.

QUESTIONS: Read Acts 1 & 2

1. Waiting on God’s Promise (Acts 1:4–8) Jesus instructs the disciples to wait for the gift of the Holy Spirit rather than rushing ahead with their own plans. What does this passage reveal about the relationship between God’s timing and our obedience?
How might waiting with faith prepare you for greater effectiveness in God’s mission? (See also: Isaiah 40:31; Luke 24:49)
2. The Role of the Holy Spirit in Empowering Witness (Acts 2:1–13; Acts 1:8) When the Spirit fills the believers, they speak in languages that draw people from many nations to hear the gospel.
How does the Spirit’s work in Acts 2 illustrate God’s heart for all nations?
What does this teach about the connection between spiritual empowerment and evangelistic purpose?

3. The Birth of the Church and the Shape of Christian Community (Acts 2:42–47) The believers devote themselves to teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, and prayer.
How does this description of the early church challenge or inspire your understanding of Christian community today?
Which of these four devotions (teaching, fellowship, breaking bread, prayer) needs renewal in your own relationship with God?
