INTRODUCTION...
Do you crave wisdom? Do you strive to have wisdom as Solomon did when he could have had anything and asked for wisdom to lead the people of the Lord correctly?
Wise word often mean a lot to the giver and to the receiver.
Paul, in our main passage today, is speaking to the church of Corinth. The Corinth area was known for many things including prosperity. They were a shipping port. They had a lot happening around them including the best of philosophers. The church was known to crave wisdom, knowledge, and all kinds of philosophies. But were they seeking out wisdom from the right places?

1) The Holy Spirit Gifts us with God's Wisdom
There are many avenues today for us to seek wisdom from. We have the whole world at our fingertips. Everybody has a voice today.
The Corinth churches surrounded with new age philosophy and random gods. Full of wealth and everything they could possibly need. But the main god also worshipped in Corinth was Aphrodite. She was considered to be the goddess of beauty, pleasure, and procreation.
The church here is mainly Gentile and Greek members that have been enveloped into this culture of everything Corinth has.
Paul’s warning words were that their wisdom did not come from their surroundings.
In the same way, our wisdom today does not, should not, come from the wisdom of our age or rulers of this age.
There are many progressive “churches” out there that are kneeling down to the wisdom of this age.
Believers, we do not bow down to the “wisdom” of anything or anyone that goes against the Word of the Lord.
Human wisdom changes and fades away, it is only self-exalting, not God-exalting.
In contrast, God’s wisdom is eternal, Christ-centered, and revealed through the power of the Holy Spirit.
God’s wisdom prepares our hearts and minds for His kingdom, rather than focusing on our kingdom.
The wisdom that the Holy Spirit gives us in beyond our own comprehension. This same Spirit who is omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent imparts His wisdom on the believer.

While the wisdom of this world is folly, the Holy Spirit reveals Himself to the believer.
This type of wisdom helps us walk closer to Christ. We receive this wisdom to look more like the Son, and less like the world around us.
Proverb 4:7: This is the type of wisdom I want to seek out.
When we get spiritually lazy or let our morals lax to today’s society, we lose sight of what Christ is doing and what He can do in our lives.
We need to strive to see life more from God’s perspective rather that use our own wisdom gained from the world around us.
We find this wisdom through prayer and reading of His word. Remember, the author is present with you!

2) The Spirit Searches & Reveals Depths of the Lord
The same author of the Word that lives in us is the Spirit who searches the innermost thoughts of The Father who sent Him.
We only know individually our innermost thoughts and desires. Ion the same way, the Spirit of the Lord is the only one who knows the mind of the Father.
This same Spirit who is in us helps us to understand God’s plan for His creation.
Believers read the Word of the Lord different. The world does not and will not get it as Christians do.
All the people coming to the Lord right now is the Holy Spirit working. He is stirring up the hearts of thousands right now.
Without the Spirit knowing the plans of the Father, we don’t understand the salvation plan. Knowing this should bring the believer some comfort and that is what so many in this world long for…and it’s right there in front of their face.
Psalm 119:169; Psalm 119:130
This does not always keep us “in the light” and sometimes we still feel as if we are in the dark spiritually. Remember, that the Holy Spirit is still working and comforting during these times.
Romans 6:26-28: We do not always know and understand what is happening behind the scenes of what the Spirit is doing. Hav you ever had that time where you do not understand how the Lord is working until after you’ve been through the darkness?
Seek the Spirit to help illuminate the path for you. How will He answer? Maybe it’s through Scriptures or through another believer.

3. The Spirit Teaches & Gifts with Words (v. 13-14)
So now we take some of this wisdom from the Lord and we USE it. These words that are given from the Spirit and freely given through the Spirit.
Paul’s words in his letters were not through his own wisdom. Sometimes it is hard to remember that these words are all divinely given to the author. These are God-Breathed words
The Spirit will give divine understanding of His wisdom. So not only is the Spirit helping us to understand the words so divinely given, He is equipping the saints to share it with others.
As believers we should constantly be in prayer, asking the Spirit for teaching, guiding, leading. We need His words to give to others. This comes in the form of witnessing to others, in parenting, in teaching, and in exhorting.
This is so much more than memorizing facts about the Lord, but rather a daily lifestyle shift.

4. The Spirit Gifts us with the Mind of Christ
The believer is gifted with the mind of Christ, but what does this mean?
There is a gift that we will get into later in the series….discernment. This is a very important gift to the believer.
We must judge the difference between what is of Christ and what is not in our world today.
Hebrews 5:14
This means that we must evaluate situations, teachings, and behaviors and put them up against the word of God.
This is often hard for the belier because we then have to say that human approval or condemnation is irrelevant.
The world (sin) hates the truth. But to the discerning believer, that is what we must speak.
To do this and to be in this space, we need to make sure that we are living according to His Word in our lives. (Philippians 1:9-10)
This all grows with maturity. Paul goes on to talk in 1 Cor. 3 that he has to speak to them as if they are infants because they were not ready for the whole truth yet.
As you continue to grow in Christ, be confident in His word. When you make decisions, don’t treat them like a Magic-8 Ball, but let your mind be conformed to that of Christ.
Closing:
Listen to the Spirit today. 1 Thessalonians 5:19 says to not “quench the Spirit”
Don’t ignore Him today
Walk in step with His plans for you

RESPOND, REFLECT & COMMUNION
I would like to give you a chance to respond to God…
-- What did God reveal about who he is to you today in our time in God’s word?
-- What did God reveal about what he has done or is doing in our time in God’s word?
-- What did you learn about who you are as we looked at these stories today?
-- What did you learn about what you are supposed to do?
—> Let's take a minute to thank Him, respond to Him, confess our sins to Him, examine our hearts before we take communion...
—> WHAT IS JESUS SAYING TO YOU TODAY?
—> WHAT IS JESUS ASKING YOU TO DO?
