Foundational Faith week 2: The Rightly Aimed Life

Foundational Faith week 2: The Rightly Aimed Life

As the Apostle Paul continues in chapter 1 of 2 Corinthians - he’s going to share how to have a rightly aimed life. A life aimed at living with integrity and one aimed at divine intentional living. A life where we focus on keeping the main thing, the main thing. We’re to not let the cares and concerns of this world creep into becoming anything but secondary things in light of knowing and loving God. God promises to use every detail of our life, both good and bad, for his glory and our ultimate good as we seek Him above all.

God promises to use every detail of our life— both good and bad— for his glory and our ultimate good - as we keep the compass of our life focused/centered on HIM above all things.
Q) what is your compass in life?
True North - the fixed point that can lead you to a satisfying life of significance? A lot of people will plug in career, achievement goals, relationships, resources, & a host of other things to be what steers them toward that…

What Paul is going to point us toward - our TRUE NORTH and fixed point of reference = the Glory of God… to know Him, love Him, seek Him and his glory!

Westminster Catechism: (one question - most famous)
Q) What is the chief end of man?
A) Man’s chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever!
Paul is going to highlight how to aim our lives rightly - it begins with living with integrity and a life that aims at the GLORY of God - living a life that ultimately POINTS TOWARD HIM.
The Hebrew word for integrity comes from a root meaning “wholeness” or “completeness.”
There isn't a single Greek word that directly translates to the English word "integrity"; rather, the concept is conveyed through various Greek terms...

In the Bible, integrity is a comprehensive concept encompassing wholeness of character, steadfast adherence to moral principles, and uprightness in all actions and dealings, reflecting God's character.
Psalm 25:21 – “May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope, Lord, is in you.”

People may question your beliefs, but let them never question your honesty or integrity.

We’re to be people who are not compromised - we’re people of both deep conviction and compassion - living consistently the truth, heart and ways of Jesus we follow. Integrity is not perfection—it’s consistency.
It’s aligning your heart with God’s truth and walking it out daily.
In a culture of spin, be a person who is sound - let your Yes, be Yes and your No Be NO. that’s what Jesus is teaching us. That’s what Paul‘s getting back to people of integrity are whole people. They’re the same, day in and day out. (See Matthew 5:34-37)

Questions:
Does your life evidence authenticity/integrity?
Is your life, and are your actions, unquestionably pure and true?
Are you noted for your faithfulness?
Is your life exhibiting a Christ-like love?
2 Corinthians 1:20-22 NIV

19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us—by me and Silas and Timothy—was not “Yes” and “No,” but in him it has always been “Yes.” 20 For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. 21 Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, 22 set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
Q) How many promises are made in the Scriptures?
Some have searched and calculated around 25,000+ promises written about…within the Bible; but when you remove all the promises that are just human to human — it reveals around 8,000 promises that God has made in the Scriptures to humanity.

They each and ALL find their completion in Christ (see 2 Cor. 1:20)
He's above all and holds all together.
He's the ULTIMATE and there is no other!

Quote:
-A. W. Tozer
As God is exalted to the right place in our lives, a thousand problems are solved all at once.
When we seek God first - we seek his glory above all other pursuits and everything else will fall in place. Get the top thing right, and everything else will be alright.

Don't get caught up trying to place ultimate glory on 'lesser things' and not having the perspective of the GREATEST thing - God himself! Aim your life at Him most and all others things will fall in place. (see Matthew 6:33)

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. -Colossians 3:1-3

When we live with giving God the Glory - Him being our ultimate focus, our ultimate purpose — all other things will fall in place.

This is the Christian life:
We’re meant to be giving glory to God in every season of life.
In every struggle, in every victory,
in every headache, in every joy,
in every pleasure, in every pain…

My purpose as a Christian is not to live for myself - it’s to live for the glory of God; to enfold my life into a greater story and point people toward that story, toward the Creator and Author of it all.

Q) Where is your life pointing?
To things and people around you?
To yourself and what you can create and sustain and acquire?
To God? To what pleases Him - grows your relationship with Him?
