Stewardship: Stewarding Our Testimony - Phil Kendon
We have all entrusted something of ours to someone else, believing that they are going to care for it as though it were their own. If you lend someone your car and they damage it through misuse, you would be very unhappy about that. If you pay for your child to go to university, but they spend their time drinking and partying and failing all their subjects, you would be very unhappy about that. We expect people to treat those privileges and those blessings with respect and with responsibility. The bible puts it like this in 1 Corinthians 4:2 – “Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.” The Apostle Paul’s testimony holds a prominent place in the scriptures. The whole story is recorded three times in the book of Acts and alluded to in several of his letters. In particular, Paul uses his testimony in his defence when he is on trial. Though people may argue with biblical teachings, or with the hypocrisy they see in the church, no one can argue with your personal testimony. The story of how God has worked in your life and changed you is a powerful witness for the truth of the gospel message and of the wonderful reality of a relationship with God through Jesus.

About noon, King Agrippa, as I was on the road, I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, blazing around me and my companions. We all fell to the ground, and I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, ‘Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’
Galatians 1:13-14 (NIV)
For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it. I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers.
Philippians 3:4-6, 1 Corinthians 15:8-9, 1 Timothy 1:13
- What was your life like before?
Acts 26:4 (NIV)
The Jewish people all know the way I have lived ever since I was a child, from the beginning of my life in my own country, and also in Jerusalem.
- What happened when you met Jesus?
Acts 26:13-14 (NIV)
About noon, King Agrippa, as I was on the road, I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, blazing around me and my companions. We all fell to the ground, and I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, ‘Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’
- What is your life like now?
Acts 26:20 (NIV)
First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and then to the Gentiles, I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds.
- The purpose of the narrative portions of scripture is to give us an example, warn us of the consequences of disobedience, teach us, inspire endurance, and encourage us.
1 Corinthians 10:1 (NIV)
For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers and sisters, that our ancestors were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea.
1 Corinthians 10:11 (NIV)
These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come.
Romans 15:4 (NIV)
For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.
Philippians 1:12 (NIV)
Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel.
2 Corinthians 1:8-9, 2 Timothy 4:16-17
