What do you want to get out of life?
To be able to answer in a roundabout way, look at:
-what you are doing every day
-who you are doing it with
-where you are doing it
-how you are doing it
-what is it costing you
Now, whether that matches up with what you think you want to get out of life or not, it’s what you’re currently getting out of life because that’s your everyday reality!
Mark 10:35-45…
Quote from commentary:
“While the Old Testament often spoke of submission and service, it usually referred to a person’s relationship with God. Jesus applied the concept of the servant attitude to a person’s relationship with other people. In doing so, he transformed the ethics of the ancient world. The Greeks considered humility to be the lowest virtue; Jesus made it the highest” (Life Applic Bible Commentary)
Disciples just wanted to get on the map…
Jesus wants them to change the entire landscape.
For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many” v. 45
Jesus is saying:
I’m not here to be the conquering King you’ve envisioned and are hoping for.
I’m not here to demand the Roman empire bow and serve me.
I’m here to serve a broken and lost humanity!
I’m here to give my life as the only proper payment for people’s sin
I’m here to serve you!
Because servant is at the heart of who Jesus is.
Wanna become a great leader?
Wanna experience success?
Wanna be impactful in your life?
Wanna change others lives and yours along the way?
Wanna add value?
SERVE!
QUESTION:
Would you be willing to just show up and try something?
Everyday life is not about what we gain but what we give
Jesus showed us that the highest form of living is not getting, but giving.
Not climbing over people, but lifting them up.
CONCLUSION…
When was the last time you thought about the fact that Jesus came to serve you?
“DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT I WAS DOING? You call me Lord and Teacher cause I am. And since I’ve washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow…DO AS I HAVE DONE TO YOU!” John 13: 12-16
What if success at what matters isn’t just about how much you’ve accomplished, but how many people you’ve loved, helped, and served along the way?
Shift the question from:
“What do I want from life?” to “What can I give to life — and to others — that truly matters?”
