Stewardship: Stewarding Our Time - Phil Kendon
We have all entrusted something of ours to someone else, believing that they are going to care for it as though it were their own. If you lend someone your car and they damage it through misuse, you would be very unhappy about that. If you pay for your child to go to university, but they spend their time drinking and partying and failing all their subjects, you would be very unhappy about that. We expect people to treat those privileges and those blessings with respect and with responsibility. The bible puts it like this in 1 Corinthians 4:2 – “Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.” So, over the next five weeks or so, we are going to look at some of the things that God has entrusted to us that we must prove faithful with. The first topic we are covering today is the gift of time. The reality is that time is limited. Our life is short and fleeting. And so if our lives are so fleeting, then it places a responsibility on us to be responsible with this gift of time and to honour the one who has entrusted us with this life. What are the things we can do to prove faithful with the time God has given us?

Sunday 9:30 AM
- God is the giver of life and the one who allots us our number of days. We must first acknowledge this gift and submit our lives to him.
Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
- God has a purpose for our lives, and he has prepared good works for us to do.
- The way we spend our time should show the value that we place in the relationships of our lives – including our relationship with God.
Mark 6:31 (NIV)
Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”
- Work hard and rest well. This is the rhythm that God has given us, and this is the rhythm in which we will flourish as human beings.
- We guard our time, and we are not willing to give it away too easily. But to be a steward of the time God has given me is to be generous with our time.
Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
