Sermon Title: The Gospel and Idols

vs. 24, The WAY or Christianity has now moved into the realm of offending the commercial, industrial religious complex of ancient Rome.

Artemis wore a lot of hats:
- Hunting and Wild Animals: Artemis is renowned as a skilled huntress and is the protector of wild animals.
- Wilderness and Nature: She is associated with untamed nature, forests, and mountains.
- Childbirth and Young Girls: Artemis is a protector of young girls and a goddess of childbirth.
- Virginity and Chastity: Artemis herself is a virgin goddess, & she protects the chastity of young women.

vs. 25-27, Those in this region who are getting saved are
leaving their pagan backgrounds, dying to the old, and
becoming new creations in Christ.

Ephesians 4:22-24, “22 throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. 23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. 24 Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.”

vs. 32-34, This mob was loud and didn’t want to listen to
reason or fact, they just wanted to YELL!

vs. 35-41, The mayor, the consummate politician, fearing his rule and neck, reminded everyone what was at stake - Rome could come in at any moment and lock them all up - and told them to take this matter to the courts and not to the masses.

The Gospel challenges cultural and economic idols
When the gospel spreads, it confronts the false gods and idols people rely on—both spiritually and economically.

Standing for truth may stir opposition
Faithfulness to Christ can cause disruption and opposition, especially when it challenges deeply rooted beliefs or practices.

God protects His people in dangerous moments
Even in chaotic/violent situations, God is still sovereign and provides protection through unexpected means.
