The Holy Spirit - reveals and confirms God’s will
The Holy Spirit – empowers and strengthens through fellowship and prayer
God indeed protected Paul. He still got beaten up by the Jewish mob, but he was rescued from death on multiple occasions.
The Holy Spirit empowered Paul with words to successfully defend himself against false charges and at the same time to testify to the truth of Jesus Christ.
The fruits of obedience
Like Paul, ask your fellow believers to pray with you and for you when you are struggling.
Paul’s obedience to Jesus
Paul knew that his obedience would come at a personal cost. But he counted the grace he’d received to be worth the cost of obedience. By word and example, Paul encourages us to do the same in whatever Jesus asks of us.
In obedience, Paul witnessed to the crowd, the religious leaders gathered in the Sanhedrin, and the Roman leaders as he stood on trial.
Paul could have faltered. But he didn’t. He chose to trust his Lord Jesus and God’s provision. He sought God’s peace. He leaned into God’s strength. His words and his example can encourage us to do the same.
Questions:
1.In Acts 20–21, Paul is compelled by the Spirit to go to Jerusalem, even knowing danger lies ahead. Have you ever felt led by the Spirit to do something costly or risky? What helped you obey?
2.The Holy Spirit confirmed that hardship awaited Paul, yet didn’t stop him from going. What do you think this tells us about how God leads us—even into suffering?
3.Paul relied on the prayers of fellow believers for strength and protection. How can we support each other practically and spiritually when obedience is hard?
4.In what ways have you seen the fruits of obedience in your life or in others’ lives, even when that obedience was difficult?
5.What does it mean to you that Jesus stood near Paul in prison? How does this truth help you in times of struggle, pressure, or loneliness?
6.Paul’s whole life was shaped by the grace of Jesus and the call to testify. What might faithful obedience look like for you right now in your own story?
Pray for each other – especially for courage to follow Jesus, no matter the cost. Invite the Holy Spirit to guide, strengthen, and speak.
