Revelation 20-21
How can a loving God send people to hell?
OT = God blesses the faithful but judges the wicked
Jesus on Heaven and Hell

Heaven = being where God is, for people who receive Christ

Matthew 4:17 “From then on Jesus began to preach, ‘Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven in near.”

Matthew 6:9 “Our Father in heaven”

Matthew 6:19-20 “But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven…”
Hell = being where God is not, for people who reject Christ

Mark 9:47 “It’s better to enter the Kingdom of God with only one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, where the maggots never die and the fire never goes out.”

Matthew 10:28 “Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”

Matthew 25:41,46 “Then the King will turn to those on the left and say, ‘Away with you, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his demons…And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life.”
In a sense, God does not send anyone to hell. God created humans with freedom of choice to either choose to live with Him or to live without Him, that life choice has eternal consequences.

C.S. Lewis “You can’t be sent to hell, you can only get there on your own steam…the damned are, in one sense, successful rebels to the end…There are only two kinds of people—those who say ‘Thy will be done’ to God or those to whom God in the end says, ‘Thy will be done’. All that are in hell choose it.”
God is on a white throne =

the books and the Book of Life were opened (see Daniel 7 and 12) =

The dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books =

Coward, unbelievers, corrupt, murderers, immoral, witchcraft, idol worshipers, liars =

their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur =
Good News is Jesus experienced hell for us on the Cross

“My God, my God why have you abandoned me?...It is finished!” Matthew 27:46/John 19:30

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
