Assessment (vv. 12-13)
You didn’t walk in ways of father and grandfather
You did walk in ways of your father-in-law
You led your people into whoredom
You killed your brothers
Judgment (vv. 14-15)
LORD will bring a great plague on family/possessions
LORD will cause you to die of bowel disease
Jehoram’s end
Enemies took his possessions, sons and wives (vv. 16-17)
LORD struck his bowels, and he died in agony (vv. 18-19)
Reigned eight years but “departed to no one’s regret” (v. 20)
Application
Families are powerful: marry well (especially religiously)
Idolatry is always a challenge
God’s judgment is slow but certain
Our ways shape our remembrance
Response
Family
How has your family shaped your ways?
How have you shaped your family’s ways?
Idolatry: what idolatry has taken root in your life?
Judgment: how have you seen God’s judgment?
Legacy: will people regret when you are gone?
