Philosophy of Discipline
Bastard (noun)

Spurious (adjective)

• of falsified or erroneously attributed origin : FORGED
• of a deceitful nature or quality
1. This Scripture is saying that your claims to being God’s child are ILLEGITIMATE if you say you are a Christian but are hostile towards CORRECTION and un-discipled.
2. God cannot SAVE and SANCTIFY/TRANSFORM those who have a hostile and unapproachable attitude towards discipleship and correction.
Discipline (noun)
• control gained by enforcing obedience or order
• orderly or prescribed conduct or pattern of behavior
• training that corrects, molds, or perfects the mental faculties or moral character
• a field of study
• a rule or system of rules governing conduct or activity
Disciple (noun)
• A person who is a student or an adherent of the doctrines of another; follower
• A disciple is one who embraces the philosophy (mindset) and goes through the process adopting the disciplines of another
3. It is possible to have DISCIPLINE without LOVE but it is impossible to have LOVE without DISCIPLINE
The man or woman who despises CORRECTION will never be able to align themselves with God’s purposes for their life and will live in opposition to God’s word and His church.
4. Root yourself in REALITY (God’s word) and the REALITY of consequences (eternal rewards/consequences)
5. When we submit to DISCIPLESHIP/DISCIPLINE we are preparing ourselves to stand before God and answer for our actions and our motives. You will stand before God and answer not only for what you have done but why you are doing it.
PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY is a key ingredient for a child/adult to receive salvation. You cannot properly teach personal responsibility without modeling it.
6. How can you receive forgiveness for your sins if nothing is ever your fault?
Practical Steps
1. We DISCIPLE our children by teaching them a PATTERN they can follow
2. We MODEL to our children what it looks like to successfully receive and apply INSTRUCTION
3. Discipline in a child life is first EXTERNAL (to train and restrain)
4. A Godly parents desire is that the external discipline will result in INTERNAL TRANSFORMATION (self-control)
The desire to please the Lord is a GIFT from God
5. ENCOURAGING them in their new life in Christ
6. Those who are RESPONSIBLE for family/church discipline should be the most open and responsive to CORRECTION.
CHRISTLIKENESS and heart TRANSFORMATION should be the goal of all instruction and discipline
