1. She had a FAITH that Pleased the Lord
A. Faith is the GIFT God uses to bring salvation to His people. God gives faith because of His grace, mercy and love, Ephesians 4-5.
B. Faith resulting in ACTION is the only kind of faith that is real.
2. She Illustrated PERSISTENCE
A. Many times in Scripture we’re ENCOURAGED to be persistent with God if we want an effective prayer life.
B. This woman was DESPERATE and she was committed to do whatever it took to get help.
3. She had a Temperament of HUMILITY
A. She did NOT come to Jesus in ARROGANCE. She knew who she was and what the Jews thought of her.
1) The term Jesus uses for "dogs" is a term in the Greek indicating SMALLNESS.
2) The reference was not to scavenger dogs which were despised in Israel; but to the little PET house dogs that the children loved.
B. She ACCEPTED Jesus' characterization of her.
4. She Turned Difficulty into OPPORTUNITY
A. This woman NOT only accepted Jesus' estimation of her; she used His estimation as GROUNDS for her argument.
B. She refused to be DEFEATED by an apparent closed door. She saw it as a door of opportunity to walk through.
5. She Experienced a Manifestation of the Lord’s GRACE
A. We cannot WORK our way into heaven. Our WORKS, however noble and mighty are simply not enough.
B. UNLESS our righteousness is the righteousness of Christ working in us, then our righteousness is not enough.
C. Grace is UNMERITED favor.
Weekly Review Read through Mark 7:24-30 while thinking about your faith and consider how to apply to your life the attributes the Phoenician woman applied to her life as a result of the faith she’d been given.
What’s Next? Our next Re-Charge lesson will be from Mark 7:31-37 entitled: Ministry 101. Feel free to read and study the text and consider this question before attending: “What can we learn from Jesus’ interaction with the deaf man and how to minister to those in need?”
