The law is holy, but it has no power.
WAS PAUL TALKING ABOUT HIS PRESENT EXPERIENCE OR HIS PRE-CHRIST EXPERIENCE?

1. Remember Paul’s overall point -- the law alone brings no power over sin

2. Remember that this was a typical rhetorical device in Paul’s time

3. Remember that Paul said exactly the opposite in Romans 6
Romans 7:14b
…I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR US?

> Don’t give up on victory over sin
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR US?

> Don’t give up on victory over sin

> Give up the lies behind your excuses

* Paul constantly sinned too
* I’m worthless so why not do it
* I deserve this
* It will make me happy
* No one will get hurt
* I won’t get caught
* God doesn’t care
* Why even try -- it’s hopeless
