- We have a sit-down faith, meaning His atoning work paid it all.

- Tonight, we look at the promise of peace.

- There is so much in current events to give us concern.

- These are the ‘perilous times’ Paul spoke of and they present reasons to be anxious.

- We spend five years of life captured by worry.

- A simple definition of worry is ‘excessive concern over the affairs of life’.

- Worry dethrones God in our lives.

- Worry distracts us from the things that really matter in life.

- We can worry or we can pray, but we can’t do both at the same time.

I. Don’t be anxious.

- “Don’t be anxious about anything…” (v.6).
- Where was Paul when he wrote these words?

- Worry is rat poison to the Christian life.

- Here are four components for dealing with worries.

1) Prayer

- Prayer is to the spiritual life what breathing is to the body.

2) Petition

- A petition is a list you make when you are in desperate circumstances.

3) Thanksgiving

- There is power in an attitude of gratitude.

- An ungrateful heart is a cold heart.

4). Request

- This covers about every situation we experience in life.

II. The Promise

- “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (v.7).
- When peace guards our heart, we stay calm when the whole world goes nuts around us.

- We need not give way to fear because our future is in the Lord’s hands.

- He will keep us in perfect peace when our thoughts are centered on Him, because we trust Him (Isaiah 26:3).
