The Family of Nations (Genesis 10)

The Family of Nations (Genesis 10)

Sunday, June 22, 2025 - Message #16 by Pastor Doug Corlew--"In The Beginning" (Genesis 1-11)

Locations & Times

1000 S Main St, Alta, IA 51002, USA

Sunday 8:30 AM

Sunday 10:00 AM

How did God's sovereign purposes unfold through the descendants of Noah's three sons?

1. Distant Lands (Japheth, v 2-5)
2. Deadly Foes (Ham v 6-20)
3. Divine Grace (Shem, v 21-31)
Sermon Discussion
Applying God’s Word through Journey Groups, family devotions, or personal meditation:

Opener
1. Today’s chapter records the descendants of Noah. How interested are you in your own genealogy? Why might it matter to know where you came from? How far back can you trace your family line?

Recap
2. Read Genesis 10 (or listen to an audio version!). What stood out to you from the sermon? Was there a verse or point that especially caught your attention or raised new questions?

3. From the descendants of Japheth (v 2-5), we’re reminded of God’s care for all peoples. What are some practical ways we can grow in concern for unreached people worldwide?

4. From the descendants of Ham (v 6-20), we see that God’s people have real enemies. How do followers of Jesus face resistance or hostility today? How should we respond?

5. From the descendants of Shem (v 21-31) came Abraham, and ultimately Jesus. By grace alone, God chose Seth, Noah, Shem, Eber, Peleg, Abraham, and others. How does the biblical teaching of divine election encourage you? Does it raise any questions or tensions for you? (Consider Romans 9:6-26 if you’d like.)

Digging Deeper—Read Acts 17:22-34.
6. What stands out to you in this scene of Paul preaching in Athens?

7. How do verses 26 and 30 emphasize the sovereignty of God over all people?

8. What can we learn from how Paul shares the gospel with people who believe in many different gods and ideas?

Application
9. What is the most important thing God is saying to you from Genesis 10 and Acts 17?

10. What is your impression of Ezekiel so far in our ABIDE personal Bible reading plan?
