Session 2 | Called to Rest, Not Rush
Before you begin this Growth Group session, read the lyrics to Come To The Table and pray the prayer found inside the cover of your Sermon Series Study Guide.

Background:
This will help set the context of the session if someone from your group reads this aloud.

Notice how the siblings try to put Jesus in the middle. Jesus then shares about the importance of rest. He does not say what Martha is doing is bad, but rest is better. We often define ourselves by what we do. How can we know that we find value in rest and recreation as well? How can we find rest during the summer, instead of rushing from one thing to another?

Scripture: Luke 10:38-42 and Psalm 62:5-8
Before engaging in the questions, have someone in your group read the Scripture passage aloud.

Sermon Reflection:
1. What stands out to you about today’s sermon?
2. What did you learn about God? About people?
3. Any life-lessons to apply? How do you plan to apply them?
4. How can we pray for one another?

Questions for Application:
1. Are you someone who identifies yourself by what you do: employee, spouse, child, parent? What will it take to shift your self-perception to that of a child of God who finds rest and renewal in the presence of your Heavenly Father?
2. What does the creation story (Genesis 1:1-2:3) teach us about God’s perspective on the need to rest?
3. Read Psalms 62:5. What does “Yes, my soul, find rest in God” mean to you? How do you find rest in the Lord?
4. To you, what is the difference between procrastinating or avoiding work, and seeking rest in the Lord?
5. Do the ways that you rest draw you nearer to Jesus or closer to the comforts of this world?
6. What do you find about Bible study that is refreshing to you?
