John 14:8-26

The Holy Spirit is sent by the Father and Jesus to be our advocate.

Who the Spirit is…
A unique person (v.17)
“you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you”
Mind (1 Cor 2:11), Will (1 Cor 12:11), Emotion (Eph 4:30)
One substance with God the Father and Jesus (vv.18-20)
“I (Jesus) will come to you” (v.18)
“You will see me” (v.19)
“In that day, you will know that I am in the Father, and you in me, and I
in you.” (v.20)
“If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love
him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. (v.23)

What the Spirit does…(vv.16, 24)
Active in creation (Gen1:2)
Active in redemption (Jn 1:32-34, 14:18-19, Rom 8:11)
Another helper – Jesus is the first (Rom 8:34, 1 Jn 2:1)
Another helper
paraklétos (comforter, counselor, advocate)
Para – come alongside to help (sympathy/ support)
Kaleo – call, urge, declare (confront/argue)

How the Spirit does it…(vv.25-26)
Applying what Father appoints and Jesus accomplishes
