Sermon: Wholehearted Worship
Questions:
1. Opening question: What is one of the most successful gifts you have given to someone (one that was greatly appreciated)? What made it so meaningful? How did it feel to give it?
2. The sermon, based on Hebrews 11:4-7, used the stories of Abel, Enoch, and Noah to examine faith and genuine worship. What do you remember about each of the main points? What stood out to you?
3. Read Hebrews 11:4 and Genesis 4:2–7.
a) Why was Abel’s offering accepted but Cain’s was not?
b) What does this tell us about the heart behind our worship? (See 1 Samuel 16:7 and Proverbs 3:9.)
c) In what ways do we sometimes go through the motions in worship without engaging our heart?
d) How can we grow in giving God our best—our time, energy, and resources?
4. Read Hebrews 11:5 and Genesis 5:21–24. What do you think it means to “walk with God”?
a) What might that look like in your daily life? (See Micah 6:8 and Psalm 86:11.)
b) Enoch was taken before death. What do you think God saw in him?
c) Is there a difference between believing in God and walking with God? Explain.
5. Read Hebrews 11:7 and Genesis 6:9–22. What stands out to you about Noah’s faith?
a) How did Noah demonstrate wholehearted obedience even when he didn’t see the outcome? (See James 2:17 and John 14:15.)
b) What are some things God is calling you to obey—even if they don’t seem to make immediate sense?
c) Why do you think obedience is such a key expression of worship?
6. Of the three expressions of faith (giving, walking, obeying), which one do you most need to grow in right now? What would “wholehearted worship” look like in that area of your life this week?
7. Prayer response:
a) Ask God to show you where your worship might be half-hearted and to help you grow in wholehearted devotion.
b) Ask Him to develop in you the faith of Abel to give your best, the faith of Enoch to walk closely with Him, and the faith of Noah to obey even when it’s hard.
c) Invite Him to shape every part of your life into an offering of worship.
d) Pray for any needs in your group.
