THE POWER OF PRAYING FOR OUR CHILDREN

SCRIPTURE
Far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for (my people). And I will teach you the way that is good and right. 1 Samuel 12:23

Intercession is standing between God and another person, attempting to bridge the gap.

Abraham intercedes for his child’s future. Jacob intercedes to bless his children.
Job intercedes for his wayward children. Moses and Aaron intercede to save the children of Israel.
Manoah intercedes for his child, Samson. Hannah intercedes for a child.
David intercedes for his child to succeed. The Canaanite Woman intercedes for her hurting child.
Jairus intercedes for his child to have health. Paul intercedes for his spiritual children.
Jesus ever lives to intercede for His children.

“Some things happen when we pray (for our kids) that may not happen (for our kids) if we do not pray.” Pastor Chitty

SIX ARENAS TO PRAY FOR YOUR CHILDREN

My Child’s Life With God

I ask God to save their souls.
…he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through (Jesus), since He always lives to make intercession for them. Hebrews 7:25

We should not settle for “good” kids instead of godly kids.

I ask God to give them a genuine love for His Word.

I ask God to fill them with the Holy Spirit.

I ask God to keep them pure in heart.

“God, may they be repulsed by perversion.”


My Child’s Life with People

I ask God to make them good friends, spouses, and family members.

I ask God to pluck wrong relationships.

“Show me your friends and I’ll show you your future.”

I ask God to plant right relationships.

I ask God to defend them from enemies.

I ask God to give them a heart for the marginalized.
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. Proverbs 31:8

I ask God to give them favor with all people.
My Child’s Emotional Well-Being

I ask God to make them whole emotionally.
We must not overestimate hurt nor underestimate it.


My Child’s Mindset

I ask God to give them a Biblical worldview.
Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies to clever they sound like the truth. Ephesians 4:14

I ask God to give them discernment.
“Discernment is not knowing the difference between right and wrong. It is knowing the difference between right and almost right.” Charles Spurgeon

I ask God to show them their value.


My Child’s Physical Body

I ask God to protect them.
“Lord, preserve them from incident, illness, and injury.”

God will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. Psalm 91:11

I ask God to give them long and full lives.


My Child’s Future

I ask God to anoint them to fulfill His purposes in their generation.

I ask God to grant them influence and prosperity.
We want godly influence but not influence at the expense of their souls.

I ask God to impart Heaven’s wisdom to them.
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. James 1:5

I ask God to give them legacy.
