DATE: May 31 - June 1, 2025
TITLE: Don't Drop the Baby
TEXT: Psalm 103:8-12
How to Hand Off the Faith:
1. Pass it with Clarity - Teach the Word.
2. Pass it with Integrity - Live the Life.
3. Pass it with Urgency - Know the Window.
Three Things we can do:
1. Reclaim the Mephibosheths around you.
2. Confront the lies.
3. Live the legacy.
Bible Study Questions
1. What does Psalm 103:8-12 reveal about God's character, especially in the context of generational failure?
Application: Take time this week to reflect on a moment where you may have felt disqualified or disheartened by a failed transition, whether in parenting, mentoring, or ministry. Now reframe that memory through the lens of Psalm 103:10. Ask God how He is redeeming your story and who He may be calling you to encourage with His compassion and grace.
2. How can we ensure the baton of faith is passed with clarity, integrity, and urgency to the next generation?
Application: Identify one young person in your life - whether a child, grandchild, student, or church member - and commit this month to intentionally investing in their spiritual journey. This could be achieved through a weekly Bible verse text, a one-on-one conversation, or consistent prayer with and for them.
3. In what ways are today's cultural lies (secularism, deism, legalism) influencing the next generations' understanding of God? How can we confront them with the truth?
Application: Choose one of the three lies mentioned in the sermon and prepare a 2-3 sentence 'truth response' grounded in Scripture. Then, look for a real-life opportunity this week to speak that truth in love - whether in a conversation, social media post, or small group setting.
4. What can we learn from the story of Mephibosheth in 2 Samuel 9 about God's redemptive heart toward those who have been 'dropped'?
Application: Make a list of individuals you know who might feel forgotten, wounded, or spiritually sidelined. Reach out to one person on that list this week with a tangible act of kindness - an invitation to coffee, a handwritten note, or a prayer demonstrating that God has not forgotten them.
