The Bible is filled with men and women who were regular, flawed humans with messy and imperfect stories....and then Jesus appears to them
But through God’s divine power, He gave them great and precious promises that enabled them (partakers) “to share His divine nature” (2 Peter 1:4).
The good news for each of us today is that we too share His divine nature!
No matter who you are—even if you feel like you’ve messed up too badly—you can still be used by God.
Through this series we are discovering what happens when Jesus appears...you’ll discover you cannot mess up too much for God’s grace to cover you!
In fact, He has an even greater plan for your life than you could ever imagine!
So, lets continue in this series by sharing that even though we are human and make mistakes, God can still equip us to build His kingdom like He equipped Peter the disciple.
25And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea.
Matthew 14:26–28 (ESV)
26But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear.
27But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”
28And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.”
Matthew 14:29 (ESV)
29He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus.
Matthew 14:30–33 (ESV)
30But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.”
31Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
32And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.
33And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
4by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
15But Peter said to him, “Explain the parable to us.” 16And he said, “Are you also still without understanding?
13Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”
14And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
16Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
17And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
18And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
Matthew 16:21–23 (ESV)
21From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.
22And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, “Far be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you.”
23But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”
1And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.
2And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.
3And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him.
4And Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.”
5He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”
5Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
6He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?”
7Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.”
8Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.”
9Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!”
10Jesus said to him, “The one who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but is completely clean. And you are clean, but not every one of you.”
Matthew 26:31–35 (ESV)
31Then Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away because of me this night. For it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’
32But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee.”
33Peter answered him, “Though they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away.”
34Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.”
35Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you!” And all the disciples said the same.
7“Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, against the man who stands next to me,” declares the Lordof hosts. “Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered; I will turn my hand against the little ones.
31“Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat,
32but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.”
33Peter said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death.”
34Jesus said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow this day, until you deny three times that you know me.”
14And more than ever believers were added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women,
15so that they even carried out the sick into the streets and laid them on cots and mats, that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them.
16The people also gathered from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those afflicted with unclean spirits, and they were all healed.
44While Peter was still saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the word.
