I. Jesus Got What We Deserved

a. Mercy: Not getting what you deserve.

i. Justice said, ‘They must pay.’ Mercy said, ‘I’ll pay it for them.’

ii. This is what Jesus did on the cross. He got what we deserved.

b. When the enemy says, ‘You should get what you deserve,’ God says, ‘It’s already been paid.’”

c. We don’t get what we deserve because He got what we deserved.

II. We Got What He Deserved

a. Grace: Is getting what you don’t deserve

b. Mercy says, You’re Forgiven! Grace says, You’re Blessed!

i. Not just debt forgiven, but favor given.

c. He rewards us with the good we don’t deserve, couldn’t earn, and can’t repay.

III. Grace Flips the Script

a. Who dies for the guilty? Jesus did.
