I. Introduction & Greeting - 1 Timothy 1:1-2

B. Timothy – a true believer, and a true son to Paul – v. 2a

II. The Error Of False Teachers - 1 Timothy 1:3-4

A. Jesus warned about such false teachers – Matthew 7:15-16

B. These false teachers were probably elders in the church or surrounding churches – 1 Timothy 1:20

C. They preached a gospel other than the true gospel – Galatians 1:8-9

III. Sound Teaching - 1 Timothy 1:5-6

A. Paul’s goal: “filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith.” – 1 Corinthians 13:13,Psalm 51:10

B. There talk is meaningless, they miss the whole point – v. 6

IV. False Teaching - 1 Timothy 1:7-11

A. They desired the “glory” of teaching – Matthew 23:5-7

B. They do not understand the glorious Gospel of redemption for the wicked – v. 8-11, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11

When talking to Zacchaeus, Jesus said in Luke 19:9-10 9 Jesus responded, “Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham.10 For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”
