The Chosen series
1. What lines would you be willing to cross to get help for someone you love?
2. What voices told you that you didn’t belong? (Was it yours?) How did you respond? How do you think Jesus would have responded?
3. Even if you don’t believe in Jesus’ lordship, what do you find admirable about this woman’s tenacity? How does Jesus challenge your assumptions?
4. What can you personally do to challenge your own lines of “outsiders,” to pursue, invite, and welcome them into healthy community?
5. How much do you fight with Jesus to get what you want? Is what you want in line with what He wants, as shown to you in Scripture? What verse can you find to justify your want as something He would also want for you? This woman of great need and great faith goes back and forth with Jesus, both speaking and listening in mutual dialogue. What is God saying to you about your request?
Study Topic 1: God’s Plan of Salvation for the Jews and the Gentiles. From the NIV Case for Christ Study Bible:
"To put Jesus’ statement into historical perspective, we can trace God’s plan of salvation for the Jews and the Gentiles through the Old Testament (see, for example, Psalm 86:9; 99:2; Isaiah 42:6–7; 49:5–6). New Testament passages such as Romans 15:8–12 indicate that the Jews would be saved, followed by the Gentiles. Through the ministry of Jewish believers, God’s blessing would spread to the whole earth (see John 4:22; Romans 1:16). Far from being left out, the Gentiles would also share in the promise to Abraham (see Genesis 12:3; Galatians 3:8)."
Study Topic 2: Fun OT Comparison to Rahab. Compare this Canaanite woman’s journey of faith to Rahab’s journey in Joshua 2. What similarities or differences do you see between them? What do they reveal about God’s eventual plan for global healing and uniquely personal healing?

17 For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes. 18 He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing. 19 And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt. 20 Fear the Lord your God and serve him. Hold fast to him and take your oaths in his name.
