Defining “devoted” – CONSISTENTLY ENGAGED IN
First, look at the ACTIONS:
Apostles’ teaching – LEARNING TOGETHER
fellowship/meals – LIFE TOGETHER
Lord’s Supper – COMMUNION TOGETHER
prayer – TALKING TO GOD TOGETHER
shared – CARED FOR OTHERS TOGETHER
worship – MEETING GOD TOGETHER
met in homes – CONNECTING TOGETHER
Second Pass (A Deeper Look):

Second Pass (A Deeper Look):
What motivated the actions?
awe – A DEEP SENSE GOD’S PRESENCE
joy – A DEEP SENSE OF DELIGHT
generosity – A DEEP SENSE OF CARING
praising God – A DEEP SENSE OF WHO GETS CREDIT
Some math:
actions – attitudes = HOLLOW FOLLOW
attitudes – actions = FAKE FELLOWSHIP
attitudes + actions = REAL COMMUNITY
What’s your next action step?
What’s your next attitude step?
A community of love is God’s call on us all.

OPEN:
When you think of the phrase, “Church at it’s very best,” what images, words or experiences come to mind? Share what that looks and feels like to you with the group.
DISCUSS:
1. Have someone read Acts 2:42-47 aloud for the group.
2. If we use this passage as a template for how a church should behave, what in this description of the early church is encouraging to you? What aspects are challenging to your picture or experience of church?
3. Have someone read Acts 2: 42-47 aloud for the group again.
4. This time, instead of actions, look at the attitudes of the people. How do those attitudes line up with your experiences of church at it’s best? What happens when the attitudes of people in a church community move in a different direction than what’s depicted in this passage?
5. How can we as a church family aim at the attitudes and actions of the first church family? What are we currently doing that we should encourage and promote? What would we need to change to get there?
APPLY:
1. Decide as a group what you want to work on together to help each other and our church family to look more and more like this description of church from Acts 2. Make a commitment to work on those aspects as you can this Summer and be ready for the Fall.
2. Pray for each other and for our church to see steps toward being the church Jesus is calling us to be in our world right now.
