Why would the Pharisees ask this of Jesus?
Because they were actively trying to trap him, giving him an impossible question to answer.

What did Jesus write in the dirt?
We have no idea specifically what he wrote, but we do know the effect that it had on the Pharisees. It convicted them of things they were doing wrong in their lives.

The religious leaders missed the point.
Jesus wanted them to see that who we are was more important than what we do. Doing a good thing doesn’t make you a good person, but when you are a good person, good deeds start to become your default.

Life change follows Jesus
