Counter Culture: Humility Over Ability
Jesus came to establish His kingdom - where His rule, His ways, His realm would begin to operate within our world and much of what he was establishing is counter cultural to our reality. Counter to how things operate in our here and now moment. We as his disciples are invited to follow him, follow his lead and to be people of influence within our historical moment - living out the ways of God’s kingdom into our culture. We are called to be God’s ambassadors and to be people of light, shining God’s hope and toward a better way of living.

https://share.fluro.io/form/6329f633da0feb00250cbd5fHow do we measure greatness in the Kingdom of God? In our world, we tend to measure greatness by achievement or ability. Jesus calls us to measure by humility. In God’s kingdom and way of life - we’re invited to seek humility over ability.
We all wrestle with pride.
Think about it, of any group should have been pride free, it was the twelve. Besides being under Jesus’ teaching, they were fishermen, publicans, a revolutionary. They weren’t blue bloods, they were just commoners of their day…
Pride is a human struggle. We all have an “I problem.”

Pride is a human struggle. We all have an “I problem.”
Pride is so natural, so human...so satanic. We must be aware and be diligent to push back against it. We must continually assess: Am I trusting in my ability — or relying on God’s ability - leaning into HUMILITY.
How do we live out what Jesus is saying here? What does it mean to value and preserve the humility of children or to "humble" our own selves like a child? And why is this the way to greatness?
Well, in the plainest sense, to humble oneself means to get low.
Staying humble - learn to look, notice, appreciate the miracles around you…God’s activity and the wonder of His creation…

—Humbling oneself is a prerequisite for salvation.
Repentance is not only needed to enter the Kingdom of God.
Repentance is also a practice that will help us grow in greatness within the Kingdom of God.
It’s the continual repentance of my brokenness and need of rescue from God that brings about renewal in my heart to make me more like Jesus!
Self-sufficiency has no room for God and will find itself apart from God.
=pride is the very thing that keeps people from receiving Jesus as Lord and pride can keep you from growing with God…
Repentance brings entrance to the Kingdom of God
Ongoing repentance leads to continual renewal within our apprenticeship of Jesus. There’s always room for the Holy Spirit to renew you to look more and more like Jesus. Reflect his character to greater and greater degree…
If you’re not dead, you’re not done. God’s got things He wants to renew and refine within you - so He can shine through you more and more.
God’s got more to do in you and through you. We must continually rely on Him - ongoing repentance for ongoing renewal.
That takes humility OVER ability.

SABBATH PRACTICE — sabbath brings perspective of playfulness, rest and relaxing into God. == “I am not what I produce or achieve”
My true identity is received not achieved. (It’s a gift from God; not by works)
==We all need that in this sped up, occupied and busy world; that pushes us to be the ones in charge…. This isn’t about becoming a Christian Couch Potato - but it is about realizing that we’re not all that and a bag of chips.
Stay Humble. Stay dependent upon God and not yourself.

Pride will always come knocking upon the human heart.
Humility keeps the door closed to it.
Humility keeps the door closed to it.
Greatness in God’s kingdom is exhibited by Christlike humbleness.
As children of the King we know that greatness is in God and God alone. It is only as we humbly submit and let Him Master us, lead us and live through us. It is then and only then that we will truly be great.

We cannot enter His kingdom, nor will we be “great” in His kingdom without this childlike humility.
Though the Lord is great, he cares for the humble, but he keeps his distance from the proud. -Psalm 138:6
And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. -James 4:6 (see Proverbs 3:34)
For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. -Luke 14:11
