The Book of Acts: The beginning of the Jesus Movement
Drilling down:
The PASSION story was LOCAL NEWS.
"…God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, to be both Lord and Messiah!” Peter’s words pierced their hearts…

The crowd does not REFUTE, they RESPOND.
Brothers, what should we do?”

Peter’s message in 4 parts:
· REPENT: turn away from SIN.
· TURN TO GOD: do not depend on SELF
· BE BAPTIZED: a PUBLIC expression of faith
· RECEIVE THE SPIRIT: God MOVES IN
This PROMISE is for ALL PEOPLE.
Not an ARGUMENT, an INVITATION.
The outcome of the message:
By the numbers: From 120 to 3120 in one day!
More personal: Each ONE a LIFE that was CHANGED!!!

Our message IS THE SAME!!!
We have an important message. We need to share.

Small group questions:

OPEN:

Have you ever listened to (or been yelled at by) a street preacher? If so, share that story with the group. How did it feel to watch them do their thing? Did you see any hint of convincing or converting anyone who was listening?

DISCUSS:

1. Have someone read Acts 2:36-38 aloud for the group.
2. Knowing that this happens just a few weeks after the events of Holy Week (triumphal entry, the arrest of Jesus, Peter and the disciples scattering and hiding, Jesus’ trial, execution and resurrection), what does it say that Peter and the Apostles are speaking this in public? How does all of that context flavor this exchange between Peter and the crowd?
3. Have someone read Acts 2:41 aloud for the group.
4. Knowing that it was both blasphemy against the Jewish temple and rebellion against the Roman government, 3000 people went public with their faith that day. What does that say about the message Peter shared and the crowd that heard it? what does that say to us today about the message of Jesus?

APPLY:

1. How can we take steps forward with the vision Jesus casts for the Kingdom movement in this passage as a group and as individuals?
2. Pray for each other and for our church to see steps toward being witnesses for Jesus in our world right now.
