Jehovah Chesed - The Lord of Loyal Love
God is Jehovah-Chesed, meaning, “The Lord of Loyal Love”. We live in our culture where love seems to fade, love seems to struggle to last and many contend to define what real love entails. There are some who even question if love has real staying power. But God contends that His committed love is one of chesed - one of true loyalty and one that can't wander, nor waver. It’s the active loyal love of God. It’s involved and an advocate like love that is committed to you; all in - far beyond a reciprocal kind of love. It's the love Jesus demonstrates and wants to grow within us.

Jehovah-Chesed (The Lord of Loyal Love)
The first time chesed is used in the Old Testament is in Genesis 19:19 with the last occurrence being found in Zechariah 7:9.
Between these two passages chesed is used 248 times in 241 verses…
Of these 248, over half (127) of the occurrences can be found in the book of Psalms. In Psalm 136 — it’s stated 26 times!
The Hebrew word "chesed" is a multifaceted term that is often translated as "lovingkindness," "mercy," "steadfast love," or "covenant faithfulness" in English translations of the Bible. It is a central theme in the Hebrew Scriptures, reflecting God's enduring and loyal love for His people.

Theologian John Oswalt says chesed is “a completely undeserved kindness and generosity.” Chesed is not just a feeling “it is an action - it intervenes on behalf of loved ones and comes to their rescue.” -author, Lois Tverberg
It’s not a romantic love - it’s covenantal, faithful, reliable type of love.
Infatuation will ebb and flow, come and go - but chesed love is here to stay!

Deuteronomy 7:9, Moses reminds the Israelites, "Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps His covenant of loving devotion for a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commandments."
Chesed is also closely linked to the theme of redemption. In the account of Ruth, Boaz's actions toward Ruth and Naomi are described as acts of chesed, reflecting God's redemptive love.
The book of Ruth could be subtitled, “The Book of Hesed,” because that unique little household was a textbook example of covenant love, both God’s and his people’s. The narrative of Ruth, foreshadows the ultimate expression of God's chesed in the New Testament, where Jesus Christ embodies God's steadfast love through His sacrificial death and resurrection.

The incarnation puts God’s chesed love on display - Him stooping to get involved and active among…
It’s the endless kindness of God that is bent toward our interest and care. Every time chesed is used in this way in the Scriptures, it is joined to the verb "to do" or "to make," because it is action-oriented.

Takeaway:
In a culture where love swirls around, inflated by infatuations and awash in constant distractions; there is a deeper love that calls to us - one depicting the constant nature of God‘s loyal love.
We are people pursued by the chesed love of God and we are to reflect that kind of love back to Him and others.
