The Conflict of Grace - Carlo Casaleggio
We explore the powerful, often uncomfortable truth at the heart of the Christian faith: grace is not just something we receive from God—it’s something we are called to extend to others. The well-known story of Jonah invites us to reflect deeply on the nature of grace. But what happens when we find it difficult to give grace to those we feel don’t deserve it?

1. Jonah's story invites us to reflect on the nature of grace
- Jonah was fine with receiving grace but wasn’t willing to see it extended to his enemies.

2. Jonah’s struggle is ours
- Like Jonah, we often wrestle with the idea that God's grace is for everyone, not just those we think deserve it.

3. God's response to Jonah is deeply revealing of His character
Jonah 4:10-11 (NIV)
“You have been concerned about this plant... But Nineveh has more than 120,000 people... Should I not be concerned about that great city?”
- God's rebuke was both gentle and piercing.
- Jonah’s religion was centred on himself, not God's heart for the world.

4. Consider who the Ninevites are in our lives
- We are reminded that grace doesn’t stop with us. God’s grace is bigger than our prejudices and deeper than our pain.

5. Grace has two sides — something to receive and something to give
- We should be open to the possibility that God may use us to extend grace to those we least expect.
- And in doing so, we may understand and appreciate His grace more fully in our lives.

Let's Pray:
God, please soften our hearts just as You softened Jonah’s resistance. Help us to become vessels of grace, and not just recipients.
