Identity vs Authority
Identity vs Authority
It is not hostile as we might think of violence.
Ellicot’s Commentary-“The “violent” are of eager, impetuous zeal, who grasp the kindom of heaven, i.e., its peace, and pardon, and blessedness-with as much eagerness as a man would snatch and carry off as their own the spoil of a conquered city. Their new life is , in the prophet’s language, “given them as prize” (Jeremiah). There is no thought of hostile purpose in the words.”

Positions of rest in positions of violence are seasonal, and sometimes situational.
When God wants you to rest, it’s from a position of identity. When he wants you to practice the violence of faith, it’s from a position of authority.
Sidenotes:
Whether resting or exercising the violence of faith, we should desire and expect the breakthrough from prayer itself to a loving Father, rather than the discipline of praying.
Peace in the world system is the absence of conflict. In the kingdom, it is the presence of Jesus.
