Introduction:
Matthew 7:24-29 NASB
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. 26 Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.”

SAME effort, SAME storm, SAME teacher.
The wise obey Jesus. The fool thinks hearing is enough.
James 1:22 NIV
22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

The wise build on the cornerstone. The fool builds on shifting culture.
Matthew 21:42a NASB
42 Jesus said to them, “Did you never read in the Scriptures,
‘The stone which the builders rejected,
This became the chief corner stone;

‘The stone which the builders rejected,
This became the chief corner stone;
The wise withstand the storms of life. The fool falters under pressure.
28 When Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching; 29 for He was teaching them as one having authority and not as their scribes.
Jesus’ words stand on their own.

Prayer Requests:
Group Discussion: What has been your favorite DIY project?
Read Aloud: Matt. 7:24-29
1. Do we know Jesus through hearing His teaching or obeying? Or both? How have you experienced knowing Jesus through obedience?
2. Are you building your life on Jesus or shifting culture? What areas of your life are detached from Jesus as the foundation? How can you remedy that?
3. How does God get glory through our faith standing strong in storms? Can you give an example?
4. Since Jesus has divine authority, how does that affect your approach to the Bible?
