Palm Sunday and Envy: When Others Have It Better

The Pharisees' Envy: While crowds celebrated Jesus on Palm Sunday with palms and praise, religious leaders responded with bitterness—they believed they should be the ones honored, not Jesus.

Understanding Envy: Envy is feeling bitter when others have it better—a deep-seated sense of inferiority that creeps up stealthily, giving us satisfaction when others fail or underperform compared to us.

Biblical Examples: From Cain and Abel to Joseph and his brothers to the Pharisees, Scripture shows how envy leads us away from God's will and into "disorder and wickedness of every kind."

Recognizing Envy's Impact: Envy undermines joy, destroys our love for others, clouds relationships, leads us to tear others down, and can cause us to quietly quit on vital aspects of our lives.

Overcoming Envy: Find a different foundation for self-worth in Jesus; practice anonymous generosity; ground your strivings in the security of God's love rather than fear of not measuring up to others.
