Prayer and Praise

Romans 12:15 says, "Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep." Take a moment to let us know how we can rejoice with you or bring a need before God with you.

Colossians 4:16–18 (ESV) - And when this letter has been read among you, have it also read in the church of the Laodiceans; and see that you also read the letter from Laodicea. 17And say to Archippus, “See that you fulfill the ministry that you have received in the Lord.” 18I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. Remember my chains. Grace be with you.

Philemon 1–2 (ESV) - Paul, a prisoner for Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, To Philemon our beloved fellow worker 2and Apphia our sister and Archippus our fellow soldier, and the church in your house:

The people in your life matter.
We identify with how they would have most likely read it…like a letter from beginning to end.
1 Timothy 4:13 (ESV) - Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching.

Serves as a reminder…
2 Peter 1:12–15 (ESV) - Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have. 13I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by way of reminder, 14since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me. 15And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things.
Before we begin, let’s read together…
This is God’s Holy Word. Written by men, inspired by God. God gave it to us that we may understand all things pertaining to life and godliness. These Scriptures are not what save me but it is the One to whom they testify; that is, Jesus Christ. The Word of God is my authority in life. It is to shape my thinking, and transform my life. I will learn it, live it and give it to those around me. Amen

Discussion Questions (Read Colossians 4:16-18 and pray before you begin)

1. What do you think Paul meant when he told Archippus to “fulfill the ministry that you have received in the Lord”? How can this apply to us today?

2. (ask each group member to answer) As we read Colossians together, what truth(s) were you reminded of during our study? Read the portion of Colossians focused on that truth. How has this truth influenced your life?

3. Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Hebrews 4:12-13 and James 1:22-23. How can we encourage one another to prioritize Scripture reading and application in our daily lives?
