Waiting in Jerusalem
2025 Theme: Faithfulness
Series Title: Trust the Plan
Scripture: Acts 1:1-8
April 27th, 2025
Something to think about:

As we close out our series today entitled “Trust the Plan,” we look at one of the last meetings the risen Jesus had with His disciples. Though they had questions and concerns about the future, dates and times were not for them to know. All they needed to know was what Jesus desired of them until He returned. And what was that? Jesus instructed them to be His witnesses throughout the earth. Let’s take a closer look today:
Key Point: “Instead of focusing on dates and times, Jesus’ followers must be His witnesses everywhere and at all times.”

What can we learn from these final instructions of Jesus to His disciples? Let’s break each one down today:
· Instruction #1: Do not leave ______________ till the ______________comes.

Acts 1:4-5 (NLT), 4 Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before. 5 John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

· Instruction #2: Don’t be concerned about _______ or _______ of the Kingdom’s ______________.

Acts 1:6-7 (NLT), 6 So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, “Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?” 7 He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know.
· Instruction #3: Be Jesus’ ______________ everywhere.

Acts 1:8 (NLT), “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Something to take home:

What does your witness look like? Does it match what you say about what you believe? Are you waiting to see how things play out before you make any real type of commitment to GOD? Are you concerned about dates and times, signs and wonders, more than you are about living out your faith on a daily basis? Is Jesus your all-in-all, and is He more than enough for you as you live in intimate relationship with Him that gives witness to the world about the hope you have?

Key Point: “Instead of focusing on dates and times, Jesus’ followers must be His witnesses everywhere and at all times.”

Read Acts 1:1-8.

In Luke’s introduction to his second book (Acts), he tells his friend Theophilus about Jesus’ final instructions to the disciples during his forty days on earth after His resurrection. What did He do during those forty days, and what did He talk to the disciples about (v. 3)?

Once when He was eating with them, Jesus instructed them not to leave Jerusalem (v. 4-5).What was His reason for this?

Jesus told the disciples that John baptized with water, but that in a few days that the disciples would be baptized with the Holy Spirit (v. 5).Explain what Jesus meant by this?

As the disciples (Apostles) continued to spend time with the risen Lord before He ascended to the Father, they continued to ask Him one question. What was it (v. 6)?Why do you think they were concerned about this?

What was Jesus’ response to their question about freeing Israel and restoring their kingdom (a physical, earthly kingdom) (v. 7)?

Rather than giving the Apostles instructions on preparing for an earthly kingdom, Jesus promised that they would receive authority when the Holy Spirit came upon them and told them that they would be His witnesses.Where did He tell them to go and give witness about Him (v. 8)?How has that mission been fulfilled, and how is it continuing to be fulfilled? Is it being fulfilled in Butler, Pennsylvania?
