The Gospel of Mark: Part Five:
“My Story, His Glory.”
WHAT WAS A LEPER?
In biblical times, a "leper" referred to someone perceived to have a skin disease, often considered "unclean" and requiring separation from the community,
Social Stigma:
Individuals diagnosed with "leprosy" were considered unclean and were excluded from the community, forbidden from entering the temple or tabernacle, and required to live outside the city.
How do we respond to the lepers in our lives?
JESUS CLEANSES A LEPER:
“Now a leper came to Him, imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying to Him, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.””
Mark1:40NKJV
(THIS LEPER IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE INTERACTING WITH ANY “NORMAL PEOPLE.”)
(I THINK MOST PEOPLE WHO WANT OR NEED HELP ARE WONDERING, IS ANYONE WILLING TO HELP? )
“Then Jesus, moved with COMPASSION, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.””
Mark1:41NKJV
How do we respond to the lepers in our lives?
1.) COMPASSION-
'By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”'
John 13:35
Jesus stretched out his hand and TOUCHED HIM!
I am willing, be cleansed
How do we respond to the lepers in our lives?
2.) BE WILLING TO HELP
“As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed.”
Mark1:42NKJV
“And He strictly warned him and sent him away at once,”
Mark1:43NKJV
“and said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing those things which Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.””
Mark1:44NKJV
“However, he went out and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread the matter, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter the city, but was outside in deserted places; and they came to Him from every direction.”
Mark1:45NKJV
'Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”'
Matthew 11:28-30
'“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”'
Matthew 11:28
