Romans 7:25-8:4
“Made To Soar”

Introduction
1. Romans 8 is one of the greatest chapters in the Bible. Chapter 7 it is Christ’s work for us.
Chapter 8 Christ works in us. Chapter 7 is Conflict as the spirit battles the flesh. Chapter 8 is
Conquest: How we win!
2. After chapter 7 Defeated…Discouraged…Depressed. Is there any hope?
3. Take a Boeing 747. The law of gravity pulls the plane downward. The jet rumbles down the
runway, lifts off…the JET SOARS! The first law is still in operation (law of gravity). There is
a new law, a more powerful law…Newton’s third law and the Law of aerodynamics…that
which lifts us into the clouds!
4. Romans 7:25-8:4 The old law of sin and death is at work. We are introduced to this new law
(principle) that will set us free and allow us to soar spiritually.

We are made to soar! After Brokenness:
I. NEW PERSON 7:25 His Lordship In Me
I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord
A. The Person In Me
1.It is His life not mine. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ. I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live; yet not I but Christ lives in me, and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself for me. (Galatians 2:20) It is the life of Christ reproduced in us…THAT’S SUPERNATURAL! With every demand He meets it!
2.Today…there is a need for patience. He is our patience! With every command…with every assignment: Purity…Strength…Wisdom…etc. He is what we need. Frustration is a sign of the flesh.
3.As I surrender to Him, He lives His life through me.
B.The Prerogative In Me
The Lord
1.As Lord, he can do with me whatever He wants. It’s o.k.
2.I yield and give Him the right: “I’ll go where You want me to go.” “I’ll do what You want me to do. “I’ll be what You want me to be.” “God, You can do with me whatever You want.” It’s o.k.

II. NEW POSITION 8:1 His Look In Me
In Christ” Who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit is not found in the best manuscripts. It is brought
up from verse 4. There is no condition attached to our freedom from condemnation.
A. Our Privilege
Therefore relates to the conflict in Chapter 7. Now is at this present time.
1.No condemnation…it doesn’t say no falls, no failures, no fleshly or selfish attitudes.
2.He that believeth on Him is not condemned; be he that believes not is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten son of God. (John 3:18) Those who are lost are condemned already.
3.There are two primary sources of condemnation:
*Before God: The blood was spilled. The price was paid on the cross. There is not condemnation (judgment) before God. Jesus Paid It All!
*From Myself: What is behind condemnation? Chapter 7 trying to live in our own strength which leads to the feeling of defeat, frustration and hopelessness… ‘What’s the use.’
*It is no more… ‘I can’t’. Note the circle: I can do all things through Christ who gives me the strength. What a privilege that flows from our position.
B.Our Position
To them who are in Christ Jesus
1.To those who are saved, who are believers…I am identified with Christ.
2.I become what He is. God looks at me through Christ. All ‘in Christ’ are not victorious! We must live there! Paul said, For me to live…Christ. My position becomes my experience. I begin to see as He sees. I begin to feel as He would feel. I begin to walk as He would walk and talk as He would talk. All of this flows from Him…not me. That is a Relationship!

III. NEW POWER 8:2 His Life In Me
Two laws are given. Law: something that happens over and over again, and each time it
happens it happens the same way. Principle: For there is a reason there is no condemnation.
There is another law…other principles stronger than the law called ‘sin and death.’
A. The Law of the Spirit of Life
1.The Law The law is constant. 65 is 65. Gravity is gravity whether in London or Moscow or China. It is continual…it never quits!
2.The Life A fish swims. Why? The spirit of life is evident.
*When I get saved the Spirit gives Life. That principle is strong enough to set me free from the 1st law of sin and death.
* In Chapter 7 His life is available, but we live in the flesh. We live in our own strength and we soon wear out and are miserable.
*Why do we use ‘will power’ to please God? To the unsaved there is no new birth. There is no life. It’s natural. To the believer who has life most have not learned to draw from or appropriate His life. “I” won’t die!
3.The Lift Set me free…the Spirit of life is not something we add. It is something we have.
*Illus. of birds in flight: Birds are not afraid of gravity. They have a principle…Life!
*Lift is spontaneous…it flows from life. Life: “Lord, I want You to do it through me.”
Absolute Surrender…Life flows from a loving relationship.
B. The Law of Sin and Death
1.As I yield up my rights to Him…as ‘I’ die…He lives His life through me!
2.The Spirit of life in Christ sets me free from the law of sin and death. We have 1000s which flow from the law of sin…impatience…lack of love…bitterness…lust, etc.
3.Lack of forgiveness. “It is the Lord. I couldn’t carry it any longer.” “It was eating me up.” I died and at that moment I began to live! Frustration is a sign the flesh is in control. Watch for the indicators.

IV. NEW PROVISION 8:3 His Leadership In Me
Two ways to go:
A. My Way
1.Flesh…look at the definition: A condition in man that causes him to operate out of his own resources; meeting his own needs through his own strength. It is functioning apart from Christ’s control; a behavior and mindset that is directly opposite to who we are in Christ.
2.Note the circle and the contrast: Through the flesh…After the Spirit (4) Of the flesh…Of the Spirit (5) After the Flesh…In the Spirit (9) In the Flesh…Through the Spirit (13) By the Spirit (14)
3.What the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh…In my own strength I cannot please God!
B.His Way…New Provision
Jesus Christ condemned sin in the flesh
1.Condemned…God dealt with sin. He freed me from the Penalty of Sin. He freed me from the Power of Sin.
2.How did God deal with sin?
*God sending His own Son This is God’s answer to our deepest needs.
*In the likeness of sinful flesh…it doesn’t say His flesh was sinful. Jesus was like us. He had our desires, our appetites yet without sin!
*For sin How did His provision become a reality? He died! It becomes a reality to us when ‘I” die! Sin’s rule is broken. When we go our way…look at the price He paid for sin. Dying is a day by day, moment by moment death. Paul said, “I die daily.”

V. NEW POSSIBILITY 8:4 His Law In Me
A. The Purpose
1. What is the purpose of our provision? That the righteousness (requirements) of the law
might be fulfilled in us.
2. God wants to fulfill His requirements, not by us, but In us. The law (God’s demands),
its righteousness begins inside…not outside in!
B. The Plan
How is the requirements of God’s law fulfilled? Who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
1.The Walk is not by works of any kind. Walk is to move forward from one place to
another. Not after the flesh…it is not by my own efforts, strength or determination.
2.The Will Not after the flesh but after the Spirit. After is down upon…not dominated by
the flesh, but the Spirit! It is not by my desires and plans, but His. He takes total control. I surrender absolutely. I adjust my life to Him!
