1. Jesus has triumphed over the Devil

The foundation of a believer’s authority lies in the triumph of Jesus over Satan.

Colossians 2:15 states, “Having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”

Jesus' victory on the cross stripped Satan of his power, and through His resurrection, He established His dominion over all forces of darkness (Matthew 28:18).

2. Jesus has given us His authority

Jesus explicitly granted His followers authority over the enemy.

In Luke 10:19, He declared, “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

This authority is not limited to the apostles but extends to all who believe in Christ (Mark 16:17-18).

Ephesians 2:1-10 NIV As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 In order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Stand firm against the devil by being seated IN CHRIST!

3. You can resist the Devil

Believers are called to actively resist Satan’s attacks.

James 4:7 instructs us to, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

This resistance is possible through prayer, faith, and the application of God’s Word, as Jesus demonstrated when He rebuked Satan with Scripture in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11).

The devil can’t make you do anything!
Satan only has power over you if you give it to him!

Four forces in the universe:
- God’s Will
- Satan’s Will
- Human’s Will
- Natural Law
It takes two moves for the devil to get you!

The first move is his (or from one of his minions)...
The second move is yours (you get to decide how you respond).
There are 2 main ways that Satan gains entrance into believers’ lives:

#1: Illegal Intrusion

John 10:10 NIV The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

#2: Legal Intrusion

Ephesians 4:27 – and do not give the devil a foothold.
2 Peter 2:19 “people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.”
Satan enters through 7 OPEN DOORS in our lives:

#1 Willful Sin

Luke 6:46 “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?”
#2 Unforgiveness

Matthew 18:35 "...Forgive your brother from your heart.
#3 Inner vows

Matthew 5:37 Simply let your ‘ Yes’ be ‘Yes’ and your ‘No’ be ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.
#4 Judgments

Matthew 7:1-5 “Do not judge or you too will be judged”.
#5 Generational Sins

Exodus 20:5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me.

Hebrews 4:7, 12-13 NIV “Today, if you hear his voice,do not harden your hearts.” … 12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
#6 Soul Ties

1 Corinthians 6:16-20 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh." 17 But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit. 18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. 19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
#7 Spiritual and Emotional Trauma

Psalm 34:18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

These Open Doors allow Satan to gain entrance and affect our lives with these biblical root spirits:

Fear and Rejection
Sexual Immorality
Heaviness
Lying
Sickness
Bondage
Pride

The GOOD NEWS is that we can destroy the works of the devil because of what Jesus did!

1 John 3:8 “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”
Who is in charge here? YOU ARE!
You can kick the enemy out and close the doors!

You cannot control the world around you or the people in your life (God is in control)
You cannot blame others and become the victim (God has made you the victor)
You CAN decide who you’re going to be (God has shared his identity and authority with you)
You CAN determine how you’re going to live (God has invited you to collaborate with Him)

Who is in charge here? YOU ARE!
God will NOT take control; you have to give Him control of your life.
