Dig Deeper:
1. As we prepare for Easter, what is on your heart and mind during this time? Why?
2. Who are you inviting to join you for an Easter service?
3. What do you know about the final moments of Jesus leading up to the cross? How would you describe these events?
4. When you think of “The Last Supper” what comes to mind?
5. Read Mark 14:10-11. Who are the religious leaders in partnership with to kill Jesus? What “help” is being provided to betray Him?
6. What is on Judas’s mind? What isn’t on his mind? Why?
7. Read Mark 14:12-16. Are Jesus’s instructions specific? Why or why not?
8. Does Jesus know what is going to happen to Him next? Do the disciples? How is their viewpoint different?
9. Read Mark 14:17. What were the disciples anticipating at this meal? What happens instead? (Read chapters 13-16 in the Book of John to get more insight)
10. Read Mark 14:18-20. Describe how the dinner way set before them. Why is this important?
11. Read Psalm 41:9. Why do you think Jesus didn’t share which disciple would betray him?
12. Read Mark 14:21. What do you think Jesus is thinking in this moment? What do you think Judas is thinking at this moment?
13. Who is always in control? How do we know this from the scripture we’re reading today? What is Jesus doing? What is He not doing?
14. Read Exodus 12:26-27. Would the disciples understand the significance of the first Passover all these years later? Why? What happened to the Israelites after the first Passover?
15. Read 1 Peter 1:18-19. How is Jesus the fulfillment of the Passover, once and for all?
16. How may we prepare our hearts to take the Lord’s supper?
17. Read Mark 14:22. Why is it unleavened bread? How is the bread a symbol for Jesus’s body?
18. Read Hebrews 10:11-12. What is no longer needed? How did Jesus pay for our sins once and for all?
19. Read Mark 14:23-24. How is the drink that Jesus offered a symbol for His body?
20. Read Mark 14:25. What is Jesus’s promise in this passage?
21. Read 1 Corinthians 11:26. What is a person proclaiming when he/she participates in the Lord’s Supper?
22. Read Mark 14:26 and Psalm 118:21-22. Why would it be believed that they sang Psalm 118? Who rejected the stone? What is a cornerstone?
23. Read John 1:19. Who is Jesus? What does He do?
Live It Out:
As we take the Lord’s Supper,
1. We remember Jesus’s body
2. We remember Jesus’s blood
3. We remember Jesus’s promises
God is a loving and just Father. He must judge sin. He can’t just overlook or ignore sin. He wouldn’t be a holy, righteous God. Sin is what separates us from God. Sin is what leads us to death. Romans 6:23 says, “For the ways of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” Jesus pays for all our sin on the cross and what we receive in return is all His righteousness. He took on all our shame and He gives us all His grace. What a Savior!
Upon partaking in the Lord’s Supper, let us be reminded, encouraged, and excited to share what Jesus has done for us. You and I are to share the Lamb. “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation” (Mark 16:15). There are people in our city who have never experienced Jesus, the perfect lamb of God. Southwest Florida needs hope that can only be found in Jesus Christ. Who is the next person you plan to share the gospel with or invite to an Easter service? As we prepare our hearts for Easter, we should be searching for ways to share and show His love with others so they, too, can be invited into a relationship with Him!
