Hurry sickness- A behavior pattern characterized by continual rushing and anxiousness.
Seven statements to evaluate how sick you are when it comes to hurry sickness.
You treat everything like a race.
You find it impossible to do just one task at a time.
You get highly irritable when you experience a delay.
You feel or are perpetually behind schedule.
You interrupt or talk over people.
Your obsessed with checking things off your to-do list.
You leave before service is over.
“Hurry is the great enemy of Spiritual life in our day.” - Dallas Willard
“The great danger in our life is not to renounce our faith is we would be so rushed and busy that we would settle for a mediocre version of our faith.” - John Mark Comer
“To walk with Jesus is to walk with a slow, unhurried pace. Hurry is the death of prayer and only impedes and spoils our work. It never advances it.” - Walter Adams
“Sabbath is an act of resistance against a culture of overwork, anxiety, and burnout.” - John Mark Comer.
Sabbath is a gift of rest.
We fear that resting means falling behind.
“On Sabbath, we don’t just take a break; we trust that the world will keep spinning without us. It’s a day when our work is done, even if it isn’t.” - John Mark Comer
We resist Sabbath because life feels so overwhelming that even the idea of rest can feel out of reach.
Sabbath is a gift of renewal and refreshment.
Sabbath isn’t about doing nothing – its about doing what fills our souls.
Comer writes, “Sabbath is not a day off to run errands; it’s a day set aside to enjoy God, life, and relationships.”
“When I ________ I feel His pleasure?”
“The Sabbath is a day for pleasure—holy, God-designed pleasure.” - John Mark Comer
Sabbath breaks strongholds and sets us free!
Sabbath heals my relationship with God and others, and breaks the stronghold of pleasing people.
Sabbath heals my identity in Christ, and breaks the stronghold of performance and anxiety.
Sabbath is teaching me about grace, and breaks the stronghold of perfectionism.
What renewal or healing do you need to receive from Jesus on the Sabbath?
Sabbath is a gift of a deeper relationship with Jesus and others.
Exodus 20:10a NLT
but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God…”
but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God…”
Sabbath gives us space to connect more deeply with Jesus and others.
Experiencing Sabbath requires intentionality.
Pick a day or block of time.
Pick activities that restores the soul.
Identify what you’ll stop doing – work, phone, TV, distractions.
Make a central point of doing something that helps you connect deeper with God. (Bible, worship, prayer, journaling, book etc)
“Sabbath is not just about not working; it’s about being with God.” - John Mark Comer
Next Step: Set aside an intentional day or block of time each week to Sabbath – so you can rest, be renewed and grow deeper in your relationship with Jesus and others.
