In our text the Lord introduces His disciples to an undeniable truth that every true believer is a part of God’s FOREVER family.
Two Important Ideas
1. The Church as FAMILY
A. The diverse group of the Lord’s disciples had one thing in COMMON. They had left their former way of life to follow Jesus.
B. Sometimes we forget about our relationship to one another in the family of God, but we’re BROTHERS and SISTERS.
C. The Church as family has always been God’s INTENTION.
D. Since Creation, when God started with Adam and Eve and JOINED them into a family, He intended that we be in a covenant commitment with one another to belong, grow and be changed.
E. The effects of the FALL and SIN could cause us to wear our own fig leaves to shield us from the eyes of God and man if we do not know who we can become in Christ Jesus.
F. There must be the SURRENDER of the will. Jesus said that those who do the will of God are His family.
If we’re not OPEN to doing the will of God, we’ll be CLOSED to one another.
2. The Family as CHURCH
A. The goal would be that our NATURAL families would be like the Church in miniature.
B. All that we’re required to do towards each another in the BODY of Christ, the Church, we’re required to do in our own HOMES as well.
C. To truly SUCCEED in our homes with a spouse and/or our children we ought to see them as brothers or sisters in Christ as well.
D. It’s a fact of human nature that when we TREAT each other as better than ourselves and serve our spouses and children while holding a grace filled truthful and accountable relationships, we end up being closer to each other in a Godly way.
Weekly Review Read through Mark 3:31-35 and consider these questions: Who do you think of as your brothers and sisters? Why? What is the assessment?
What’s Next? Our next Re-Charge lesson will be from Mark 4:1-34 entitled: Ears to Hear. Feel free to read and study the text and consider this question before attending: “What obstacles have you personally faced with God’s word taking root in your life? Examples could be: busy-ness, trials, or an inability to understand.”
