Jesus Has ALL Authority
Pastor Todd Blansit

In Luke 4:31-37, we see Jesus demonstrating His divine authority in a striking way by teaching with power and casting out an impure spirit. This passage is a pivotal moment in Jesus’ ministry, revealing both His unmatched authority over the forces of evil and His power to transform lives. It is a reminder that the kingdom of God is not just about words but about power to liberate, heal, and restore.

Let’s look at three key aspects of this passage. The authority of Jesus' teaching, His authority over demons, and the response of the people.
Jesus had just left Nazareth, where He was rejected in the synagogue (Luke 4:16-30). In contrast, in Capernaum, He teaches in the synagogue, and the people are amazed not merely because of His eloquence or wisdom, but because His words have authority. Unlike the scribes and Pharisees, who relied on tradition and commentary, Jesus spoke as one who had divine power and direct access to the truth. His words were not secondhand interpretations but the very voice of God.

That same authority is at work today in the Scriptures. When we engage with the Word of God, it is not just information; it is revelation and transformation.
2 questions to ask
Are we allowing the authority of Jesus' teaching to shape our lives?

Do we approach Scripture with the reverence and expectation that His Word has the power to change us?
Notice how the demon reacts in fear: “Have you come to destroy us?” Evil cannot stand in the presence of the Holy One. The authority of Jesus is so overwhelming that with just a word, the demon is silenced and cast out. He does not need rituals, incantations, or a long battle. He commands, and it is done.
This moment highlights an important truth: Jesus' authority extends over every force of darkness. In a world filled with suffering, oppression, and spiritual bondage, Christ alone has the power to deliver.
While we are here on earth, there will always be conflict. we cannot get away from this. Satan is very busy. He is doing all that he can to keep men and women from coming to Jesus Christ, putting their faith in Him, following Him, and dedicating their lives to Him.
Many followers of Jesus are entertaining things they need to evict out of their lives.
Our ability to resist will never be greater than our level of submission!
Spiritual strongholds are negative thought patterns, beliefs, or habits that keep us stuck and disconnected from God’s truth. They can come from past hurts, fear, sin, or lies we’ve believed about ourselves or God. These strongholds show up in different ways—anxiety, addiction, pride, bitterness—shaping how we think and live. But the good news? They can be broken. The Bible says we have the power to tear them down through prayer, faith, and filling our minds with God’s truth (2 Corinthians 10:4-5). Real freedom comes when we let go of the lies and allow God to renew our thinking.
2 questions
Do we recognize the spiritual battle around us?

Are we relying on Jesus' power, or are we trying to fight spiritual battles with human strength?
The people’s amazement leads to the spreading of His fame. The good news about Jesus cannot be contained. His power, His love, and His authority compel people to tell others. The gospel is not just personal; it is meant to be shared.
There is a big difference between the love of power and the power of love.
2 questions
Are we truly amazed by Jesus today? Or have we become desensitized to His power?

Are we sharing the good news of His authority and deliverance with those around us?
