“The giving of a whole day's wages to those that had not done the tenth part of a day's work, is designed to show that God distributes his rewards by grace and sovereignty, and not of debt.” Matthew Henry

But their suffering does not affect the generosity of their Master because the suffering of another is what saved them. No matter how much you might suffer in this world, your Jesus has suffered more. It is on the merit of His suffering and His works that you earn the wage of eternal life, not yours.

Or do you begrudge my generosity? (ESV)
